Key points to Consider during Scaffolding and Shoring

First things first, let’s understand the terms scaffolding and shoring. Scaffolding is when temporary systems or structures are used to offer support and safety for construction workers, as they work on extremely high working areas. On the other hand, shoring is the construction of systems for proper support of unsafe structures. 

In layman’s language, if you want to easily work on high workspaces, consider erecting scaffolds. Subsequently, when a building shows signs of leaning outward or collapsing, then shoring must be provided. Shoring should also be provided in the event where you need to make large openings on a wall.
One important point to consider is the fact that faulty scaffolds are known to cause most construction accidents. Therefore, during scaffolding erection, strict supervision and paying attention to details is very important. Do not ignore anything that seems odd or out of place.

Scaffolding ME systems should be securely fixed regardless of whether you are working on a two or 10 storey building. So, when erecting scaffolds, ensure that you fix them properly so that they do not move away from the wall.

Avoid standing, sitting, or working under an erected scaffold.

During shoring, it is important to maintain equilibrium. In other words, the force in floors and roofs, the forces in the walls and the shores reaction should all meet at a single point.

Shoring in its nature should be strong and secure enough to resist the forces of a collapsing structure.

Shoring is made of either timber or steel. However, this depends on the load capacity that the system needs to withstand.
